MISSION TRAIL TOUR
The Mission Trail (Unavailable Sundays and Mondays)
Travel down the Historic Camino Real to the 1682 Missions Ysleta and Socorro, and the 1789 presidio chapel of San Elizario. All three are excellent examples of early Indian and Spanish architecture. Mission Ysleta was built for Spanish and Tigua Indian refugees from the 1680 Pueblo Revolt. Mission Socorro was built for the Spanish and Piro Indians. San Elizario was a Spanish presidio, or fort, to protect the Camino Real travelers from Indian attacks. Other stops may include Tigua Indian Cultural Center that features over 300 years of the Pueblo experience. And the Los Portales Museum housed in a 1850s Territorial style building. Los Portales Museum exhibits focus on the history of San Elizario including the “First Thanksgiving,” and El Paso’s first County Seat. (3 Hours). Cost of tour is $45 for Adults - 18 and under $20.
